Ah, movie trilogies: the best things in life come in threes! Well, sometimes. Hopefully, your knowledge of movies will assist you to the meta answer which is an ice-cream. Answer & explanation: https://www.xword-muggles.com/viewtopic.php?p=142230#p142230
Check out "The MOAT Mini Pack of Marching Bands" here: https://www.ephesusscroll.com/about/interest4.html. US$5 gets you 7 Marching Bands which, hard enough on their own, now contain metas too. And once again there's a mega-meta!

I’ve seen 2 of the 3 flavours(!) - Hot Fuzz is an absolute classic, seen it multiple times.
Thanks Ben!
Love those movies....ran into Simon Pegg when they were unveiling his shirt and tie from shaun of the dead at the museum of pop art in seattle. fun fact, part of his lunch is on the tie as he was eating just before filming and dropped sauce on the tie.
Whew! My only "in" was having "Shaun of the Dead" very vaguely ring a bell. I knew nothing else about it or its sequels, so, none of the other theme material helped.
Took a minute, but finally saw it. Had to Google for the ice cream name -- I've seen only the first movie and was not familiar with the brand. Thanks for a fun one, Ben!
Very nice, thanks Ben! Never heard of Cornetto before, but we have a similar product in the US called a Drumstick. I do remember, long ago, having an ice cream product that was actually shaped just like a Cornetto- versus the Drumstick, which has a rounded scoop of ice cream on top- but it wasn't called Cornetto, and I haven't seen it in quite some time. It's one of those things that an ice cream truck had, but you usually couldn't find in a store. Delicious. Now I want a Drumstick.
That this group of films is a trio was news to me — but was familiar enough with the titles that when I highlighted all the grid entries that had anything to do with film, I spotted the title words easily enough, and googles did the rest! Great fun, and also gave me another good idea for a different mechanism! (Not telling). ( :
That was how I hoped the solving process would unfold - at least for those who had not heard of any of the movies. Can't wait for your meta with a different mechanism to see the light of day!

Amazingly, since I have seen zero of these movies, I managed to see enough of the themers to know what to search for. I saw SHAUN near DEAD, and WORLDS near END. That led me to IMDB, which told me that HOTFUZZ was the third movie I was looking for. Then searching those with ice cream led me to the answer.
I saw shaun near dead and hot near fuzz but dismissed those as flukes. (always listen to nags in your mind when doing metas!) Two days I just ignored them. It was only when figuring "hmm maybe endhas something to do with it" that something came.... It was pirates of the carriers but what the hey, it got me to think of the bendy shapes as movie.
I had never heard of Worlds End and I had no idea Shaun of dead and hot fuzz had anything to do with each other. But once I got the "oh thats what they were googling" it all worked.
Yeah, guessing this might play a little tough just because I don't think it's a thing in the US (my parents grew up in Dublin so I spent many summers there when I was younger and am thus very familiar with it). So people might see the name of the trilogy and not realize that it's ice-cream (unless of course it features in the plots, I've not seen any of these). Still, seems like a small speed bump. Puzzle itself was fun--got lucky and hit on SHAUN of the DEAD right away, which led to the rest. Might be tough if the titles don't ring a bell, but that PEGG clue by itself could maybe be a way in--as in 'why would he clue PEGG that way...' Good stuff as usual, thanks. :)
Yes, that's why I clued PEGG that way. Plus, for those who can see it, there are two other relevant names in the grid! And yes, Cornettos do feature in the movies; although, to say "feature" is a bit much. In the first one, Simon's character buys one from a store. Then, in the second one, I think you can see a wrapper at some point? By the third one, the film-makers were already talking about "the Cornetto trilogy" as a joke. So they included another reference. But the name stuck!
Wow, after wag ing Neapolitan I decided to look at ice cream+ Shaun of the Dead. Stroke of luck really because I had LOTS of rabbit holes. I’ll take luck and a rocket pop please (never a fan of the Coronetto, truthfully only slightly remember them)

I am very familiar with Wallace and Gromit (& friends) and not at all with the puzzle's trilogy, but I can google! I thought I recalled someone named Simon Pegg and wondered why 54 Down was clued with cribbage instead. I found out why, and then I found out the answer! Thanks, Ben!
nice puzzle thanks! i googled shaun of the dead trilogy to get the answer... knew that PEGG was somehow involved because its such a crazy way to clue it... don't think i've seen cornetto in the supermarket before, now i want to try it

Thank goodness for nudges! Loved this trilogy and yet didn't know where to begin with the meta.
