Meta Prompt
The answer to the meta is something that top students earn
Doing well in school is hard work. I should know: I'm a teacher! OK, so it's also hard for students, too, at least the ones who want to do well. What does success in school look like? Give this puzzle a shot, and you just might find out. The answer to the meta is something that top students earn. Answer & explanation: https://www.xword-muggles.com/viewtopic.php?p=144798#p144798
Check out "The MOAT MEOW Mashup Pack" here: https://www.ephesusscroll.com/about/interest4.html. US$10 gives you access to 14 metas that don't always abide by the "rules" of the game. You won't quite know what to expect: asymmetry, 2-letter words, uncrossed letters, sometimes all of those, and sometimes none! One thing is for sure, these are some of the more creative metas my brain has been able to come up with. And there's more: this time there's a mega-meta!

You're most welcome. I think I would create these puzzles just for myself, but it is soooo much more fun to have others enjoy solving them too!

Fun one! I did submit PRISE first thinking it was an Aussie term for PRIZE. 😂 But then remembered to A plus again! Thanks, Ben!

Nice one, Ben! (And I'm embarrassed to admit I believed for a moment that PRISE could be the Aussie spelling of prize... but then I reali[s/z]ed my mistake!)

Well, I deliberately use "ise" spellings in my grid and clues, so you never know! ;-)

Well done, Ben - but that's hardly a surprise. You deliver, day after day and week after week, without disappointment. (Well, there IS that minor bit about a solver's "occasional" failure, but that's not on you!) Thanks for being so consistently challenging and entertaining.

Not sure why, but I thought maybe Aussies had a unique spelling for "prize" so I entered "prise"... Lol. It's probably pronounced that way, though. Thanks, Ben!

Hand raised for initially thinking PRISE might be an Aussie spelling. I was considering A PRISE, so even remembering to add the A didn't get me out of the rabbit hole. Fortunately google persuaded me that it wasn't a thing, and once I shook that off I got quickly to the correct answer. Fun stuff, thanks. Nice to get back on the horse after failing last week. :)

Nice one, Ben! Had a little hiccup because I used the clue word at 10D instead of the grid entry which gave me gibberish, but then I sorted it out on closer look. Love the cluing, especially the 51A reference -- loved those books and had not thought about them in a while. Thanks for the puzzle!

At first I thought it was some Australian spelling thing — prise for prize. Further cogitation revealed the answer. Nice one, Ben. Jimmy Buffett would be proud.

Very straightforward. Saw the whole mechanism almost immediately, except that in the execution I had multiple strange mental lapses on the final step (about which I'll spare the details for the sake of the readers' sanity) which triggered a plausible but obviously wrong first response (no rabbits were implicated). Nicely done there Ben, a solid "A".

I understand that nitpicking might not seem nice (you are, after all, providing free entertainment, which is certainly commendable), but please see the following as belated test-solving notes:
                                                            • In 41a's ISP, the P means "provider," so you should avoid said word in the clue to avoid a dupe.
                                                            • Since 65a's NOIRS is plural, the clue's "film" should be as well.
                                                            • You do know that both the .puz and .pdf files can accommodate a tilde on 74a’s “Pena,” right? Other than than, good 37a!
                                                            • benchen71 constructor · 2023-10-11T23:26:12.400Z
Tildas never work on my phone's crossword app, so I always try to switch them out. Your nits are totally valid. I usually try to avoid dupes; that one slipped through. And my French lessons are a long way in my rear-vision mirror, so I had forgotten about adjectival agreement!

Certainly when it falls it causes the air to become repeatedly compressed and rarefied creating longitudinal waves. But for those waves to become "sound" one needs the hearing equivalent of an observer who has the ability to interpret those waves as sound. So the answer to the question is "no". This has nothing to do with the meta, by the way; I just wanted to contribute to the ongoing debate.
