My Heart Will Go On

· By DrTom · Published 2024-02-14T12:30:26.690Z

Meta Prompt
This is the reason many of us did not give the object of our affection a Valentine card in grade school
Wonder of wonder, the MEOW managed to snag Valentine's Day. How could I not do something appropriately themed? I thought of some things that included atrial fibrillation, Purkinje fibers, Wolff-Parkinson-White Syndrome and left-ventricular hypertrophy but they just did not seem like the right kind of heart issues for the day.
Instead I whipped up this kitten (and believe me you will overthink this and then go DOH!!!) so that you can solve and spend time with your kitten. My thanks to whimsy who tested this and found it it had the right beat (and she would have told me because she never is afraid to let me know something!).
If it were possible, I'd send you all Valentine cards cause I just love this group. Good luck solving, nudges Friday if needed.
KITTEN
Calico
Persian
Puma
Lion
Nudges:
Nudge 1] The title gives you the mechanism
Nudge 2] This is one of the rare metas where you do not get only one letter from each theme answer
Nudge 3] Lots of folks probably thought that "...go on" meant go on top of...it doesn't
Nudge 4] If not on top of then what else could a heart going on mean?
Grade school and Valentine’s Day…I remember loving it and hating it. I am sure somewhere in a drawer in the family homestead there are a pile of undelivered Valentine’s Day cards with names of girls or boys long now grown up and married. Should you be bold enough to announce your fervent naïve affection and face the humiliation that comes with rejection? Dare you announce to your peers that you actually “love” the little blonde haired boy or girl? That is the thought that came to me when I realized that (1) Valentine’s Day was coming (2) it was a MEOW day. So I whipped up the kitten that you saw last Wednesday.
SOLUTION:
There were four instances of the word HEART in the grid, but it was not just HEART since the text “went on”.
HEART FELT
HEART S
HEART H
HEART Y
To give you the META answer FELT SHY
For a graphic depiction of the solve go to:
A bunch of you liked it and I like that you liked it, so I guess that is our Valentine to each other. Thanks to all who solved. You get a week off from me as Darth has a fun MEOW tomorrow. Make sure you give it a try!

The tendency would be to look for letters the HEART was on, but thankfully most people did not. Thanks for solving.

Thank you! What an ironic twist Valentine's Day coming right after Shrove Tuesday when most people give up chocolate. There is going to be a LOT of candy in the fridge!

The DrTom 5-12 was MUCH different than the 17-now. THat guy was very rotund and VERY shy (most probably one led to the other).

Was wondering if the apostrophe placement in the clues to 13D (Keat’s) and 34A (It’s) was intentional.
Also, the solution text in the constructor's note says "three instances" but I think it's four.
