Meta Prompt
The answer to the meta is next in the system
Surprise! This is part two of a two-part benchen71 meta extravaganza! If you've done part one (https://crosshare.org/crosswords/OC34ZhU1fERZwyLrb2i5/inner-system-meta) then you may know what to expect. That said, the metanism is different, even if the prompt regarding the meta answer is the same: you're looking for the next in the system. Answer & explanation: https://www.xword-muggles.com/viewtopic.php?p=133889#p133889
Check out "The MOAT MEOW Mashup Pack" here: https://www.ephesusscroll.com/about/interest4.html. US$10 gives you access to 14 metas that don't always abide by the "rules" of the game. You won't quite know what to expect: asymmetry, 2-letter words, uncrossed letters, sometimes all of those, and sometimes none! One thing is for sure, these are some of the more creative metas my brain has been able to come up with. And there's more: this time there's a mega-meta!

Very clever companion piece! But very easy to do one if you did the other. I liked the reference to 22D.
    Now to back solve.

Oh, now I get it. Cute simple mechanism.

A fun romp through the solar system on Wiki. Please explain about bosc pears.

Guessed the answer from the write up, but took some time to backsolve the mechanism. It's evident in retrospect, but rather far OUT there, wouldn't you say?
BTW, regarding Meg's question (and mine:) is this where your clue to 8A comes from? https://trade.usapears.com/bosc/ (first sentence reads, "Bosc pears stand out in a crowd for many reasons."

Sure looks like it! To be honest, I clued this puzzle quite a while ago, so I don't recall. But I really needed to get "out" in there.

Fun little one-two punch. Thanks, Ben!

Had to google this one too … and not seeing the mechanism yet. I see lots of the word OUT in the clues. Does that help with OORT?
                • benchen71 constructor · 2023-06-22T00:45:27.978Z
For the entries with clues that include the word "out" take the outermost letter in the grid. OORT is spelled down on the left and CLOUD is spelled down on the right.

Ahhhhhh. uh huh. uh huh. tnx.

My auto-correct didn’t like Oort. If you get some “port cloud” submissions, that’s probably why :)
                  • KayW 9:20 · 2023-06-22T00:25:42.939Z
Far out, man! And once again it took me 2 tries. First guess was the Kuiper belt. I thought you were on a belt kick, haha. But OORT CLOUD fits the title better.

Got the first one (inner) right away, but needed the hints for this one. Sadly, I'm not familiar with this answer. Learned something!
