Operative Words

Meta Prompt
The answer is what people try to do with crucial information
“It were ought six it were, and there was I hanging out in a Tangiers bar on a Sunday when it hit me; aye matey there’s a meta in here!”
Well you don’t have to be a Captain to solve this one, like many SSS puzzles it ought to almost solve itself if you watch for the right signs.
The answer is a 5 letter word for what people try to do with crucial information. So put your plan into operation and solve Operative Words.

NUDGE 1] As usual, Titles give so much away. But don’t lock yourself into a single definition
NUDGE 2] What was Tangiers historically known for? Besides being a den of thieves there was another group of people that hung out there and it made Tangiers a great meme for movies.
NUDGE 3] Symmetry, symmetry, symmetry
NUDGE 4] The in GRID nudge, particularly along with these other nudges, ought to give you a look behind the cloak (and dagger)

🅐🅟🅟🅐🅡🅔🅝🅣🅛🅨 🅜🅞🅡🅔 🅗🅔🅛🅟 🅘🅢 🅝🅔🅔🅓🅔🅓
Here is another nudge, well perhaps more of a shove:
NUDGE 5] The word you are looking for is 5 letters long therefore if you think you have a few of the theme answers look at their symmetrical positions. So 2 sets of two words in the same positions and one word in the position of main importance!!

  𝕋ℍ𝔼 ℝ𝔼𝕍𝔼𝔸𝕃
Five different names for "Operatives" were among the answers, clued to "kinda" look like they brought you something, and one that was a nudge hint to the meta. Taking the first letter of each name gave you something people try to do with crucial information:
AGENT = A
MOLE = M
ASSET = A
SPYS = S
SCOUT = S
AMASS it

      Fun idea, and well clued. I checked the nudges AFTER I submitted because I was missing an S and I didn't think SNAIL was it. haha ... Ah, yes! Symmetry, of course! ;) Nice one, DrT!

                        Yeah they get mad if they see you filling in the grid during the sermon - I know that for a fact!
                        Thanks for solving.

                        thought for a second it was going to have to do with Operation the game, but then spotted AGENT/MOLE and was off

                          I though breifly that the OREO and EPEE refered to be crossword commons maybe the idea would be to look for clues that talk about being crossword entries.
                          That's a meta waiting to happen.

                              I actually completed the grid and solved just after midnight on Sunday. When I returned to the forum, I caught, out of the corner of my eye, the empty grid display, and it looked different from what I'd just solved! I returned to crosshare and sure enough, what I'd solved had disappeared so I guessed that you were in the middle of posting puzzle versions that aligned. Very sorry if I got in your way during the process!😛😛. So I did the new grid the next day and had a tad more trouble with the last S than the first time around, but since I already had the general idea and answer... Anyhow, I think I liked the first S word better (but understood that you wanted to replace it with something that would allow for symmetry, but I couldn't for the life of me remember what it was. Then, this AM I did something from my usual repertoire, Lemon Squeezy https://imsqueezy.com/ Was it SLEEPER instead of SCOUT? Just wondering. Oh and yes, definitely a fun little theme and diversion of a puzzle -- Thanks, Tom!

                                You are correct, I had posted an older version that was not symmetrical and Cap likes his sss symmetric. You are also correct, it was SLEEPER, but I did not for a minute think that during the 10 minutes it took for me to realize my error someone would solve. You are too quick my friend, hope the second time around was fun as well

                                I spent a long time looking for operas. Is Tosca hiding somewhere in the grid? Figaro? Mimi? Then I looked for "operators" -- OR, AND, NOT, or the math operators - + X, nor were there any of the type Sade sings of. How about things you might find in an operating room -- scalpel, sponge, nurse, clamp. I nearly gave up, but uncovered the right ones at last 😊 (i.e, Smiley face).
