Thanks for solving! When I'm not making puzzles, my "day job" is playing in an orchestra, and of course every year around the 4th of July we play the 1812 Overture, not with cannons but with fireworks. Last night was our annual patriotic concert, and not only did I get paid to sit onstage and watch a fireworks show (seriously, how cool is that?), we also got a beautiful double rainbow! If you have a symphony orchestra near you, I bet they have a similar show going on this time of year; I encourage all of you to go out and support your local arts community by enjoying some great music!
Prefect song for the 4th. My community band always plays this during the fireworks. Sadly we don’t have a cannon

Sounds like you'll have to hold auditions for "first chair artillery" next year!

Finished the meta and went looking for Easter eggs... and I was totally rewarded. Nice job!

As I got to the lower half of the puzzle, I was wondering why the rebus squares not repepated. It took me a half second to realize why.
I'm in the greater Tanglewood area for three weeks, but the 1812 here isn't for a month, along with Bolero and other works in the canon. But there's fireworks following the James Taylor concert on the Fourth.

A great orchestra! Enjoy!

Enjoy the area -- Yeah, I guess all the cannons are in Boston with the Pops so Western Mass has to wait for its canon. But, hey, Sweet Baby James!!!
Loved this puzzle! I thought 4D was good, and then I got to 9A, which was even better. Also liked 28D. And really appreciate the more accessible metanism for us newer solvers!
Fun! I’m scanning for Easter eggs: SONIC(boom?), EFLAT, maybe ABASH (cymbal sound!), DRAMA? Where is that old crossword standby, Elba? And I guess PYOTR would have been a tad nudgy. I’ve always wondered if it must be fun to be in an orchestra playing this crazy piece… sounds like yes!
I liked this one so much that I wanted to do it again! I think the 1812 is one of my favorite pieces of music, it just means the 4th of July to me. This fun puzzle Red, White and Blew me away!!!
By the way, just as I told Mark Woychick on his puzzle, I am sÌ´tÌ´eÌ´aÌ´lÌ´iÌ´nÌ´gÌ´ borrowing to honor you in the future several of your clues:
9A, 33A, 6D, 8D were my favorites.
Smidgy - Apropos of your "day job" comment below, I tried Firework, Fireworks as meta solution first as I guess those are now what I most associate with the 1812 Overture. Regarding your profession, is it true that you found something you enjoyed so much you never worked a day in your life? Great job and Happy 4th!
Someone who digs their day job so much they do a hobby creation about it. Who doesn't love that? Classical music on the table, I can't help reporting that the white-crowned sparrows in my neighborhood (who have regionally-varying songs) have the start of the oboe solo in the Pastoral Symphony down pat.

The diagonal!! Super cool use of the escape tiles.
