Thinking Music (Meta)

Meta Prompt
The answer to the meta is a band
Some people can study with music playing and others can't. Me, I like listening to music while I work on something else; I find it helps me think. (I listened to Dua Lipa's "Future Nostalgia" as I constructed this puzzle - "Love Again" is a bop!) If you're anything like me, then this puzzle's for you. So start listening to your favourite album and if the music doesn't distract you, you should find your way to the meta answer, which is a band. Answer & explanation: https://www.xword-muggles.com/viewtopic.php?p=133127#p133127
Check out "The MOAT MEOW Mashup Pack" here: https://www.ephesusscroll.com/about/interest4.html. US$10 gives you access to 14 metas that don't always abide by the "rules" of the game. You won't quite know what to expect: asymmetry, 2-letter words, uncrossed letters, sometimes all of those, and sometimes none! One thing is for sure, these are some of the more creative metas my brain has been able to come up with. And there's more: this time there's a mega-meta!

Well, you did leave enough clues.
    • benchen71 constructor · 2023-06-13T08:53:27.780Z
This grid was version number two. The first version was constructed quite a long time ago: it had the diagonal MMMs, SME (but without mentioning that the first names of the band members were in the grid), and BRAD, DAN, ELLEN and MITCH; also, the fill was fiendishly difficult (and that's me saying that!) Then last weekend, I realised I'd left out BENJAMIN so I had to redo the grid completely. When I got to the two long entries, I thought I should put in additional clues, because I didn't want it to be too obscure. The LIMERICK was just for fun!

So... there was a metanism. I assumed you just had to google the band members.

Mmm mmm mmmmm! 62A was clever! Thanks Ben!

Fun one - and fun to go back and find all the extra hints. I had to google the band name but even this musical dinosaur recognized the name and at least one of their songs. Thanks Ben!

Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm was a monster hit here in Australia. I bought the album and then went back and bought their first album, too, which is actually even better!

As usual, a band I never heard of. But the clues were very helpful and reduced my Googling time. Thanks, Ben!
          • woozy 🤓15:29 · 2023-06-13T16:13:00.629Z
Very bizarre that I had heard of this band. I don't know anything about them except their name and I couldn't recognize any of there music but somehow I had heard of them.

I discovered that if I put enough of the names in the grid into Google, I'll get a band name I recognize. Knowing any of their hits or what they sound like is, of course, something completely different.
              • Mikey G 🤓4:32 · 2023-06-15T13:40:08.332Z
That's how I cracked it, though I wish I caught the MMM MMM MMM MMM! When I realized the band, I figured the title was alluding to that song but then caught the diagonals afterward!

Nice grid. Especially liked the clue for 60A -- got quite a chuckle out of that one. Was sure, given your Down Under proclivities, that the answer was going to be Men at Work, but that probably would've been a bit too on the nose. Thanks for the puzzle, Ben!

Wow, I was already impressed that you fit that much thematic stuff in the grid and I hadn't even noticed the Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm!

That was supposed to be the main way to the meta answer! :-)

First off let me say, “that was fun”! I kept trying to tease names out of the long entries since you had obviously been willing to sacrifice symmetry to get them in. I’ll have you know there is a Music (well Musiq), a Deo, plenty of Ricks, a few Irvs, some Bens, lots of Amins and even a Hesi. “Well that can’t be right; what’s left?” – I said to my punny self. I decided to stop making it harder and take the names you gave me (again, because you sacrificed symmetry for one) and sure enough I stopped hitting my head against a wall. Interestingly enough, I wondered if I had mis-entered 62A because there is a singer named ASHE…talk about standing on the edge of the forest and missing it for trees! In the end I got there, even though I don’t think I have ever heard one of their songs but if I did I am sure I would say “Mmm mmm mmm mmm” because if you like them Ben I’m sure they are good. Now, a comment on clue 33AOFFAL!!! I’d take umbrage at that but you would think I was throwing shade. By the way, you could have had a tie in limerick if you wanted:
                        Mary had a little lamb
She ate it with mint sauce
                        And when her sheep
                        Said, “you’re a creep!”
She replied, “but I’m the boss!”
Although I’m not Chat GPI, with gifts real or artificial, when it comes to limericks, I can get quite judicial. I judge them on their tone and length, their meter and composure, but mostly what I’m looking for is irony on closure.

Here was my method (since I was mostly looking at the long themers with little satisfaction.) Googled Arista artists, and since CTD wasn't too far down on the alphabetical list, that jogged my mind about 62A. Then just a case of confirming names and Winnipeg. More than one way to skin a.....

That's a valid pathway. I didn't want to make the puzzle too difficult (after all, it's "week 2" of June) so I added lots of additional hints.

Definitely a Hansel and Gretel meta (trail of bread crumbs). Rather eclectic goulash of clues (29A vs. 42A stand out) plus a dash of Australia educational PSA (55A). And I saw you just couldn't resist awful 33A. I had an enjoyable romp.
