Six Out of Seven Ain't Bad . . . Or Are They?

· By Bird Lives · Published 2024-10-28T15:38:41.228Z

Meta Prompt
The answer is the one that's missing.
Nudge1 As the title and intro suggest, you are looking for a set of seven. (Personal experience with any or all of them may be helpful but is certainly not required.)
Nudge 2 Only six of the seven are in the grid. Those six plus one other related entry are symmetrically placed.
Nudge 3 hese six (and the missing seventh) are the kinds of things people might try to hide. Consequently, they are hidden (though not very subtly) in the themers.
Nudge 4 A good place to start looking: entries that are a) longer and b)awkward, i.e., not the kind of phrase that would pop up in everyday speech.

I tried to make WRATH work in 50A. The southwest corner was filling in very slowly. I finally, ironically, realized that SLOTH needed to go there. Now, darn it, where is WRATH or GLUTTONY. Oh, wait! ANGER is my sixth!
Fun puzzle. Appropriate for the day.

I kept looking for wrath too! Took me a while to recognize anger.

Technically a sin to have wanted them all? Fun grid, Jay! Thanks for the SSS

Excellent! I like how gluttony made a covert appearance at 3down. Not that I needed a reminder as to which one was missing. Thanks, Jay!

Nice one, Jay! And appropriate for a Sunday, I suppose. Thanks for the puzzle!

Nice one. I see what you did there at 2D and 62A. Ironically, I was having a hard time filling 15A, b/c never heard of 7D and couldn't remember 11A or figure out the start of 13D. Once I finally filled it in I immediately saw M + ENVYING and thought it would be letter + sinful action for about 5 seconds. Obviously I was forgetting the prompt at that point. 😂 But I quickly saw PRIDE in 20A and then was off to the races. Did google to find the last one (not that I couldn't have come up with it). Fun stuff, thanks.

I see you ALMOST got WRATH with WAITHTHERE, unfortunately I saw ANGER but did not thing WRATH...I get sooo mad when that happens. Lots of Easter Eggs: ETERNAL, DAMNATION, ATE A LOT. Fun ride with the fill being the challenge here.
                        Thanks Jay

I had to Google as I was only vaguely familiar. I guess there are seven lively virtues, too. ;)

This is the first meta puzzle whose meta prompt I've solved! It was a new concept to me when I started on CrossHare and the concept daunted me at first, but this one was very clear and fun to find! (Once I revealed all of the nudges, that is)
