Stop For More Pop

Meta Prompt
The answer to the meta is a well-known pop group.
The idea for this puzzle was conceived last April to mark a “particular” anniversary, but life became busy for me and the anniversary date passed before I had time to construct, polish and publish properly. Is the grid fill too difficult, the metanism too obvious? Is some tweaking needed to create a more satisfying “aha” moment? My test solvers said they liked it, but as with any puzzle, results may vary. Enjoy! 😉

Geez -- way overcomplicated this. Saw NAME GAME and thought of the song, and tried for quite a while to make that work. Thanks for the puzzle, Darth!

I'm probably the only solver who had to use Google. Or Spotify.

Yeah, I discovered later that if you enter the four asterisked words in Google, you get the music group and song lyrics. Oh well. :P

Interesting... I found a lot of potentially relevant entries and wondered if they led where I thought they would. Then I looked backed at Rhyme Scheme and, well, of course!

Cool. You took the trail I wanted you to take. There are several Easter eggs in there.... Thanks for solving.

Lol. It was a busy day for me, and I was just ready for a lunch break and an MMM puzzle... and then "Wha--? No puzzle?"... Had to see if the apocalypse had occurred and I somehow missed it. ;)

RHYME SCHEME plus pop group (not to mention QUEEN at 65A) gave me the answer right away, but needed a second look to figure out how the themers created the scheme. I was too focused on the intra-word pattern, which of course makes no sense since that's not a thing 😂 Fun stuff, thanks. And thanks for filling the breach!
                      • Darth constructor · 2024-09-17T00:08:39.375Z
Thanks for solving. You'll find three more words to go with QUEEN for another "Easter egg example" of the RHYME SCHEME, not to mention another key item that solvers look at.

I was getting nowhere with the asterisked clues so went back to basics and read the middle entry clue - and voila!

Mamma Mia that was a great puzzle and if asked if I liked it I would have to answer "I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do". The rhyme scheme thing sealed it but NAME CASE FACE GAME pretty much put it away (by the way I entered those in Google to see what happened and nothing ABBA related popped up?) because I said wow that is like an ABBA rhyme (LIGHTBULB!!). That and having all the ABBA songs there; I found DANCE QUEEN, SUPER TROUPER, SOS, CHANCE on me and of course NAME of the GAME, which ones did I miss? Too bad they buried Mark in Elmira instead of 60 miles to the north in Waterloo, NY! Nice MOnday Darth, thanks.
                                    • Darth constructor · 2024-09-18T00:55:02.101Z
Lol. Thanks, DrT. Yeah, Waterloo would have been giving it all away! haha So, the puzzle title follows the ABBA rhyme scheme as does SCENE DANCE CHANCE QUEEN from Dancing Queen. You found SUPER TROUPER and SOS. There was also MY MY and BYE BYE from Mamma Mia. (On April 6, 2024, ABBA marked the 50 year anniversary of their Eurovision win.)
