Meta Prompt
The answer to the meta is a girl's name
I know I had fun constructing this puzzle: the big question is will you have as much fun as me completing the grid and solving the meta? I sure hope so! Answer & explanation: https://xword-muggles.com/viewtopic.php?p=151591#p151591
Check out "The MOAT Mini Pack of Marching Bands" here: https://www.ephesusscroll.com/about/interest4.html. US$5 gets you 7 Marching Bands which, hard enough on their own, now contain metas too. And once again there's a mega-meta!

Very clever, had me stumped for a while. I noticed "Leopard" in my letters but I didn't make the connection to the movie much later.
    • Dave C 3s · 2023-12-19T15:29:00.011Z
I stumbled upon the movie when I did a search on baby leopards.
      • Darth 9:39 · 2023-12-19T15:00:23.288Z
Bounced around a few rabbit holes on this one. Definitely needed help and lots of Googling! Thanks, Ben. Now to get on with my Tuesday....

I was clued in by the HEP BURN and the GRANT. One of my favorites!
          • Meg 3s · 2023-12-19T22:51:48.667Z
I saw leopard hours ago. Baby is a cub. Stuck. Stuck. Stuck. Then a friend asked what I could do with 69a and it all fell together. Lovely Aha!
            • MatthewL 🤓9:13 · 2023-12-20T16:48:53.491Z
Very clever. Found LEOPARD but, like Meg, was stuck on cub. Then I thought -- 27D had to be a clue, and since a leopard is a big cat, maybe it was just small cat or, KITTEN. Tried variations on that, including names KIT was a nickname for, and actually entered KATHERINE, but was one letter off. Darn! Finally asked Meg what the question was, and then Googled, and voila, there it was. Nice one, Ben!

The movie finally occurred to me, still wasn't sure about my submission but I thought I'd take a shot. Fun one!
                • woozy 🤓8:38 · 2023-12-20T20:09:38.021Z
Hmm. I plugged the last letters of the animals through an anagrammer and got LEOPARD but as I couldn't rationalise the order I dismissed it.

Just read from left to right. :D
                    • woozy 🤓8:38 · 2023-12-20T22:31:13.931Z
Not my week for carrying things through. I tried last letters and first letters and tried both and I tried grid order of the first and last and the last in grid order of the first and vice versa and I tried both. When I thought of the left to right (the one I most overlooked) I was thinking in terms of both first and last and figured left to right can work if you have two letters in the row and first and last require two in a row. Really. I don't know why I didn't try left to right with just one and I don't know why leopard in the anagramming didn't ring bells. I even saw Grant and thought Cary Grant but dismissed that as a passing whimsy. The Leopard in Dr. Toms MEOW today made me think of the movie. Still... phewp... just passing me by when it really shouldn't have.
So, um, the S as in cryptic didn't mean any thing? ANd the Fuses in TNT didn't either?

                        Nope! Total happenstance. :-)

This was tough used all your nudged and googled a lot - fun puzzle! Really enjoyed the variety of baby animals including Roo 😝 (which was really clever to get the O to work)
                    • Ergcat 🤓12:39 · 2023-12-21T00:22:37.060Z
Nudges helped me get to “Bringing Up Baby” ( good film!). I tried all the actresses names and their roles… even Nissa the Leopard. And nada! I double checked and apparently I had misspelled “Katharine” on my first submission. Or spell check changed it ! Duh! Thank you, Ben!

I'm being very picky with the spelling for reasons that will become apparent at the answer reveal.

Love this -- now that I've gotten it (with the help of most nudges!) Had the Leopard but never made the "Bringing up..." connection. Thanks, Ben!

Thanks for the nudges! I wasn't familiar with the movie so this was tough. Can't believe I didn't see the HEP BURN! Good one

I usually close attention to spelling but Today I Learned that Ms. Hepburn uses a 2-a spelling. Huh.
