I think that would defeat the purpose a bit! The way I envisioned the path: 1. Okay, we have two horizontal themers: Christmas and Spanish, 2. Symmetrical entries all reference the Christmas themer, 3. Translate these entries into Spanish, 4. See the initial letters of their Spanish counterparts spell FELIZ, 5. Go in one of three paths: a) wild guess/likely answer, b) use the MII entry to confirm the 7 letters, or c) translate the CHRISTMAS from the first themer into NAVIDAD.

That's a WAG. Sort of. Must go back and find the path.
Nice! Hey, I had 4 years of 43A, too!... so I guess it was good for something! haha That and the helpful Crosshare shading when landing on 14A made the first part of the title pop right out for me. The Roman number math helped confirm the second part. Maravilloso!
Explanation: Five across entries reference the first themer 14-A: COLD, SCHOOL, BOOK, WINTER, and SHOE. Per the second themer and the title, if we translate each of these into Spanish, we get FRIO, ESCUELA, LIBRO, INVIERNO, and ZAPATO. These initial letters spell FELIZ, and the seasonal nature of the puzzle - along with the bonus nod at 39-D (you get 7 if you do the math!), gives us FELIZ NAVIDAD, the apropos title and answer to the meta. A merry Christmas and happy holidays to you and yours!

Ooh, had to look up all five. A level beyond crossword level Spanish

Loved it...thanks Mikey!

I needed Google since I don't know many Spanish words, but very nice meta. One of my favorite songs!
My path was CHRISTMASDAY in SPANISHCLASS might translate to FELIZNAVIDAD, since they are all 12 letters. (Note for next year's Schroendinger puzzle, you only have to change 9 of the squares). I don't know much Spanish, but knowing COLD is Frio encouraged me to look the other four up. (So that's where Zappo's came from!)

Two total guesses.
My first was POLAR EXPRESS based solely on COLD, TOYMAKER, CHRISTMAS DAY, and (always) WINTER. It fits at least.
The second one was correct. I was closer than I realized. I had the E, L, and I but also had NAVIDAD, DIO ESPANOL, AULA.
Fun adventure. And a much better puzzle than I realized.

I basically followed the intended path from Mikey's reply to Meg with a combination of 'a', 'b', and 'c' from his step 5. I used the internet to translate because I never took Spanish.
While I haven't heard the song for a while, I've seen lots of billboards this season for a large law firm that have "Feliz Lawvidad" in big letters.
Wow, arrived by a completely different chimney! I saw Christmas Day and know that is NOEL (as in JOYEUX NOEL) in French, but in SPANISH it is NAVIDAD or rather FELIZ NAVIDAD and of course NAVIDAD is a 7 letter word. Sloppy but effective and not NEAR as clever as the real mechanism. Still, the pig found a truffle so.... I spent a LOT of time trying to do HOMOPHONES: SACK, LEE, DREI, SCENT, COHEN, KOI, THAI, CIS, SHOO but like the guy said when his date left the party "No Joy here". I tired to keep up with the PESO the puzzle but I was always TENOR twelve steps behind.
Darn I might have to start solving on Crosshare (doesn't work well at the kitchen island having coffee - mainly because I am not a phone maven) because I might have seen all the cross-references and that they were quite symmetric. Oh, well a solve is a solve.

I remembered just enough Spanish to get this. Great meta and treats for Ginger -- gato love it.

I came up with nothing when I first finished the grid, but the answer came to me when I took a fresh look this morning. Apparently I know just enough Spanish -or maybe it was just the ability to mash-up my French and Latin - that I was able to see how to make it work (with a little help from Senor G.).
