If this is your first cryptic, I can only imagine how great your next puzzles are going to be. You had some very nice surfaces, especially for the longer ones (like 7A!), and there was a humorous voice to stuff like 1D, 6D, and 18A.
A great one! For the longest time I was sure 15A had to be NONSEQUITUR, given that it fit the definition and contained EQUIS (a Spanish ex). I got there in the end, but was ultimately defeated by the upper left corner (couldn't work out DATED, TOAST, or DIE).
