Thanks again for a fun collab, Ben! Let's do it again sometime!

Good one! ORNOTHING in the grid was an intriguing rabbit hole...

Yes, Bob, we literally went to the ends of the earth for this one.

That was a fun solve! You tell that anal-retentive editor to take a chill pill.

Thanks, Meg. I will definitely pass along your message. :)

Not a huge fan of unchecked squares (and indeed got stuck in one spot), but will make an exception here. :) Initially was trying to link the DDs to an O, but then decided that it was just the Ds (which fits the title). Eventually got around to looking at the first letters of those words, and then after a brief pause thought to check the first letters of the clues. Fun one, thanks!

Thanks for hanging in there, Alan. Like I said, this puzzle was rejected on both MMM and SSS for those same reasons. 😄 It was fun to take a walk on the wild side!

Tried every double-something I could think of! Was there a way to get “teamed” other than thinking of it? (Double was spelled… was teamed?). Also, I know which side was whose, and I like them both!!
              • benchen71 7s · 2024-04-17T23:43:18.918Z
Yes, TEAMED came from the first letter of the clues for the double-D entries. :D
                • HeadinHome 🤓2:14 · 2024-04-18T19:13:22.939Z
Ohhhh! Well then clever me for just thinking of it out of the blue! 🤣

(And in Edge, I can’t see the comment I left just now using Chrome, even after refreshing several times.)

So odd… I left my comment using MS Edge, but here in Chrome I can’t see my comment! Anybody else ever have that problem?? (I can see all of them up through ajk’s, just not mine.

Fun! I got DOUBLE-CROSSED by the fact that there were six other double letters in the grid. That kept me busy with anagram solvers for awhile.
                      • Capn Rick publisher · 2024-04-18T16:11:49.832Z
Shoot! I didn't notice that, lbray53. Thanks for hanging in there!

I had to go back and find the second route to "teamed" when I realized my first inclination toward DOUBLE-TROUBLE wouldn't comply with the prompt!🤣 Very nice job, guys!

Thank you, Claudia! We thought about a few other "DOUBLE-" combinations, but this one best summed up our collaboration effort.

Oof -- finally got it but only after being dragged to the end. Sometimes you see it, and sometimes you don't. This was one of the latter, for me. But, thanks for the puzzle, you two!
                            • Capn Rick publisher · 2024-04-19T02:34:56.103Z
Thanks, Matthew. Yeah, this one involved some tricky wordplay with a lot of smoke and mirrors to disguise it.
                            • Laura M 🤓6:23 · 2024-04-19T03:00:50.366Z
Very nice, thanks! Third hint did it for me, until then I was trying to do something with the crossword rule violations.
                              • Capn Rick publisher · 2024-04-19T12:01:47.260Z
Thanks, Laura. Yeah, the rule violations were just a big diversion. We did maintain symmetry for the theme entries, however. 😄
                              • DCBilly 3s · 2024-04-20T14:51:25.002Z
Needed that final hard nudge. I was stuck for days on what to do with the nice symmetrical pattern I had found.
