Thanks, Heidi. You're closer than you think to the 11-letter answer.

Ugh and I just got the "hidden in plain sight" flavortext. :P I thought that might give me a clue to the second meta! Very nice, even if I'm disappointed that I'm down one clue.
I really liked this, fill and (first) meta solve. My solve time should say 30:XX. Somehow I managed to cheat my score. I was solving on two devices, switched over to the second one and solved it at 30:XX. Went back to my phone and refreshed the page to try to solve the meta, and it reverted everything back to the state of the puzzle at 20 minutes. By that point I knew all the grid answers enough to enter them quickly upon reading the clues, so I ended up with a cheating score.
I think I may have helped with an original version of this, so there was a little advantage. But this version felt greatly improved. Great job Rick et. al. !
Yes, Peter. You actually pretested this one a while back when its title was "Opposites Attract". The "QWERTY Dozen" stripped it down and recreated it as "Monumental Moderation" to pay tribute to you, Kay, Bob S., Bob H., Joe, and Brian.
Thank you for all your help, Ben, and for providing a key clue that ended up doing double-duty for us!

Yikes.....I was mapping the first letters of the answer from the bottom up and started to panic when M-O-R-O-N-S appeared. Great grid and meta. Congratulations to the constructors and thank you to the Moderators.
i did check out the reveal earlier; it's a gem of a meta, no doubt. (as it turned out, i'd made a few of the necessary connections to arrive at part 1's answer. but i gave up quickly when there hadn't been any headway for what felt like eons, so i didn't give myself a chance to take a break from the puzzle and come back to it with recharged eyes/brain/etc. ....it's almost like my stupid careless missteps are right in front of my stupid face and i'm just over here refusing to learn from any of them . . . )
wow this was soooooo good!! i messed up with "icy hot" and thought it was shoulder warmer (shawl)... and old boy is the name of a movie so was looking for another movie reference but i was able to backsolve once i got enough letters :)... i just read the solution and didn't realize there was a second meta!! very impressive puzzle wow! i like the connection to all the oxymorons
