Test solved and got tripped up in the very same way I get tripped up by that when its a clue! :) (Although I now do now a lot about flora on different continents - lol.) Fun -- Thanks!

Cute. Congrats on your debut "Clark Tripe"... I was thinking "Three Musketeers" and something fishy. haha

Thank you, Mr. Vader. But please remember to use my middle initial - E - which stands for "Ersatz".

Oh goodie, I'm seeing solvers! I guess everything is working. Thank you, Peter, for letting me use your Crosshare account.

Monday’s test solvers are Peter, Al, and the Cap’n? I thought they were Larry, Moe, and Curley. Heheheheh. Just teasing, fellows. Fun puzzle!

HA I read 38D backwards so I was reading it bottom to top and wondered why 38D said "read it bottom to top" when it "should" have been "top to bottom"...

Dr. Tripe is gonna be a hard act to follow even for himself. This one was a real tour de France. I can't wait for the next one. Also, solvers coming here directly through Crosshare have to be rerouted through x-muggles so that they read the constructor's biographical statement.

Will the real Clark E. Tripe please take credit for this excellent anniversary puzzle? Just reading the intro had me worried about what craziness would be going on with this one.

Oh my, no. But I hear they could use more Fortran and Cobol programmers.

Is that the real classic COBOL, where a singe period closes all open conditionals? Or that wimpy newfangled COBOL with end-if and such?

Pete, Alex, and Rich did help out a little, but this "Tour de France" (as Mr. Bird called it) was mostly my handiwork.

Silly me I tried MUGGLES first. Fun puzzle with SEVERAL deep rabbit holes (I'll bet you knew how many of the rivers intersected other words with ES or EST [a la Estuary] in them, or could be a sea [RED] or be changed to a sea [ARAL] or were crossed by an answer with a C [EBRO, URAL] or a SEA [neStEA]. FINALLY I saw the YEAR FOUR and knew that is when the Muggles (a 7 letter word) had started. Loved the intro (in particular the submissions paragraph), but I doubt you are a newbie and I will look forward to the reveal (which I assume will be that it is Peter, Rick and Al)

I tried Muggles first as well, as it was in the message and I was having a hard time with YEAR FOUR.

I was stuck on YEAR FOUR, but then someone in the Tuesday Zoom said that maybe Clark would be back for the fifth anniversary - and that's when lightning stuck.

Note: Use all 8 clues when looking for a 7 letter answer (heckin YEAROUR). Nice to meet you, thank you for the great fun and hope to see you around more, Clark E. Tripe!

My first thought for Year Four was "seniors" but that seemed too easy.
Also looked down the center column and the letters that are not in river rows can spell "solvers", but that seemed too inelegant as it's not quite in order.
When I googled and saw the answer, I got a huge grin. Perfect
