Blindly Following

Meta Prompt
Description of someone following blindly
Ah, how often have we seen it; a mad rush to certain disappointment based on nothing but the belief that the other person is right. Obviously not a good idea for anything, and certainly not for metas. We probably have gotten, at one time or another, a lead that proves to waste our time and complicate our path. But fear not, this meta should be pretty clear (Tom, you’ve said that before and been wrong, so…) and I am betting that there is a good turnout…gosh I hope I am not betting blind!

NUDGES:
Nudge 1] My titles usually have a great deal to do with the mechanism
Nudge 2] My graphic even gives away one of the themers
Nudge 3] The theme answers are all symmetric, though not all are Across!
Nudge 4] One of the early titles was Blind Followers, but in testing it was determined that was too much of a give away.
Nudge 5] Think of an inspirational Sandra Bullock movie...
Nudge 6] What does BCC stand for in e-mails? OK, now pretend you are trying to reduce carbon usage...

THE REVEAL:
EIGHT of the grid answers could follow the word "Blind":
1A ‎‎‎‎‎‎  BLIND FOLD
14A BLIND CURVE
16A BLIND COPY
24D BLIND ALLEY
28D BLIND FAITH
57A BLIND DATE
59A BLIND TRUST
64A BLIND SIDE
The 1st letter of the clues for those entries, taken in grid order spell the meta answer: SHEEPISH

I'm only seeing LEON and CANS? Unless it's in the Down clues...

It is in the downs, symmetrical but down

I didn't have a clue and went blindly looking for alternates. Nice one. Thanks, DrTom.

I thought about alternatives for a quick second, and then the difficulties of fitting 8 themers and 8 alternate themers just got to be overwhelming. When someone does that I am always in awe.
Thanks for getting a better vison in the end!

Fun one. Grid was challenging, and the meta pretty gettable (although like Peter, I had to backsolve for the E and the P. Thanks for the puzzle, Dr. Tom!

                Tommy made a little meta,
                Its answer hard to guess
And when he tried to make it better
                He only made a mess

                Thanks for solving

Yes, that very first "AHA!" is the best, glad you enjoyed it.

Took me absurdly too long to get step one. But I struck out on my own path and ... then realized that's my mistake.

Found yourself in a blind alley did you? Glad you were able to get out of it.

Well, the weird really stupid thing was I thought it could be words following or being followed by "blind" but idiotically just couldn't find any. Don't ask me why not as they are RIGHT THERE. Step One took me over 12 hours. Step two took about 90 seconds. As it wasn't alternative entries or further companion words I should try first letter of clues and... that was it.
