Let's meet for a Drink

Meta Prompt
The meta answer is a cocktail
Making a crossword grid was as impossible as I thought it'd be. However with software I was amused as to the hacky corners I could paint myself into and talk myself out of. As a meta this is flimsy maybe but I'm amused by its ability to make excuses for itself.
There are two alternative answers. One was the intended answer but through an oversight it doesn't actually fit the mechanism, so with a bit of googling I found a cocktail I had never heard of that did fit the mechansim... with a hack.
By the way. A cocktail need not be alcoholic although both meta answers are. Enjoy.

OK -- I peeked at the reveal -- which is a good thing because I would never have gotten either (although I do know of the second.) But I still have no clue how to arrive at either. I was trying with the names of the drinks in the grid, and in particular attempting to apply the numbers mentioned somehow. Anything to do with the ingredients?

Everything to do with the ingredients. You will have to google them.

I enjoyed the creative clues and, shall we say, unusual grid entries! But of the meta, I have no idea. :-)

Still not sure which are the themers -- per your nudges, perhaps they are all the drinks with tequila. I'm looking at Paloma, Margarita, Hurricane (just rum?) Clementi? Meta (which I only know because of the cluing) and even Shirley, (grenadine) bringing up the rear. ("A cocktail need not be alcoholic.") Then again, Paloma, Margarita, Meta, and Shirley all are women's names. Does something "meet" or was that a hint to look at META. Also, clues for 5 (not 4) of them have "artificially" contrived #s? Do we get the firing squad for the first answer from AOC? :)

The themers are the drinks. There are four of them and you named them all. The META refers to the actual answer and is not a drink in the grid. The artificially derived numbers were mainly to make it clear which were clearly defined drinks (in this day and age where some clever person has named everything a drink, for all I know there is a bar somewhere serving a "city limit" and an "animosity"). The have a secondary purpose to but you don't really need them.
