Introducing The Middle Class (Meta)

Meta Prompt
The answer to the meta is a six-letter noun
Where do meta puzzle ideas come from? Sometimes a phrase occurs to you and you think: that could be a meta mechanic! Then it becomes a puzzle in itself to see if the idea can be squeezed into a grid that can be clued in such a way that someone like yourself can come along and complete without too much googling. Let's see how this one goes! You're looking for a six-letter noun. Answer & explanation here: https://www.xword-muggles.com/viewtopic.php?p=125901#p125901
Check out "The MOAT MEOW Mashup Pack" here: https://www.ephesusscroll.com/about/interest4.html. US$10 gives you access to 14 metas that don't always abide by the "rules" of the game. You won't quite know what to expect: asymmetry, 2-letter words, uncrossed letters, sometimes all of those, and sometimes none! One thing is for sure, these are some of the more creative metas my brain has been able to come up with. And there's more: this time there's a mega-meta!

I first submitted MASTER, an anagram of STREAM, as in MASTER CLASS. However, it is an adjective used that way. It took a while to realize MAINSTREAM could refer to Middle Class. Duh!

I think I was simply going for STREAM in the sense of "separating based on ability/resources".

Aha! -- I enjoyed the puzzle, but lacked the connection. My bucolically-oriented mind was only picturing babbling brooks. :) I like Carolyn's interpretation also!

Nice mechanism, but I don't see how STREAM relates to all the CLASS words though.

I haven't found any sport that uses the term "out list" for injured players. Is that term specific to Australia?
                      • benchen71 constructor · 2023-04-05T20:43:26.363Z
The three themer clues end in question marks to indicate that these are made up terms.

All the others were familiar terms. To me anyway.

Nice one, that I have to thank Woozy for getting me to go back and try again. As soon as I did I saw FIRST35AWith 37 across: Another name for nurseries?[-----] ROOMS37ASee 35 across[-----] and knew what the mechanism had to be. I did hesitate a little because I am unfamiliar with the context that STREAM is being used in. I wasn't smart enough to see it also was MASTER. When it quite easily spelled out STREAM I just went with that thinking how Ben is an educator and during the pandemic so many people went to (and stayed with) STREAMING classes. Hey, its a solve, I'll take it and thank Ben for an interesting and educational (had to look up a lot but interestingly not as many as you might think. I may be getting Aussified? By the way, E FOR EFFORT...at one time E was the lowest grade but got changed to F so there was no question that you had not done either E xcellent or had gotten an E for effort; you had F ailed or your performance was F aulty.
