Meta Prompt
The answer to the meta is a number
I'm hoping this one may weaken my reputation of being gnarly. .... Oh, well...., the answer is a bit of a twist in that it's not really the "answer" but... well, you'll figure it out. I guess that counts as "gnarly".
Still it should be relatively painless. One nice thing about this is you won't need to figure out all themers to get the answer.

Great. smooth grid and impressive set up! Lots of fun discovering the appropriate elements. This WILL NOT go over like a lead balloon! :)

I had to reveal the answer because I couldn't see what you were driving at. It was definitely muddied by the fact that the clue numbers for 14D and 15A didn't match their respective element numbers either. But I know from personal experience that constructing a grid involving specific numbers is extremely hard!

Exactly! I've had the same experience -- puzzle I made last February. One little grid tweak and....oops! Since they were "one off" I could pretty much guess what had happened. :)

What!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But of course they did.! I spent literally hours setting in up the grid so Carbon and Aluminum and Silicon would so that Silicon would be near but not interfering. And I proofed a dozen times that SIDINGS was in 13 and VALLEY was in 14.... and somehow I made an error and slipped in an extras across clue.
Well, I'm very upset it means the is puzzle is simply incorrect and not correct. I am .... going to get very creative in my swearing now.....
