Wow, I loved all the clues, except for one. I didn't figure out 3D. The rest of them are some of the best I've seen here!

Thank you, Arty! That is high praise. For 3D, “finishing” indicates the final letter of each preceding word. The definition starts immediately after.

Neat.. but "finishers" might be a more accurate clue word? Or "all finishing"? Something to convey this applies to all the previous words. Loved the Rodin clue btw!

Thanks, Jeremy. I struggled with finding the right clue word for this scenario. Finishers could work; I’m going to think on it some more. I appreciate it!

I just edited the clue. It now begins: “Last of all, prisoner”

                That feels better!

You've given high praise for Vilyat Khan in 1A and Rodin in 4A (I like learning about new people/art), so let me praise the definition of 3D, which you've nicely paired with a misdirecting penal surface. I like the elegance of 5A as well, and I think 1D is a well-deserved ? clue. 2D is the only one I might query, as to whether this should be "downhiller's head" (which I know no longer makes surface sense). I think the surface is tres magnifique, so I don't want to meddle, but that did stick out to me.

Thanks, Aaron! This is meaningful and appreciated feedback. It took a little bit to nail down the wording (see comments with Jeremy above), as I wanted to stick with the penal theme. For 1D, I was thinking about using “bale-ful” but didn’t like how it presented; I decided the “?” would be sufficient. I had similar thoughts concerning 2D but other versions didn’t have the same flow. I am really glad you enjoyed this one!

I definitely think it shows when all the elements of a surface are working together as opposed to just being sufficiently cryptic, so kudos to you!

              Fun, elegant solve!

I always rush through these minis and don't always notice the wordplay!

I’m glad you liked it, graham!

I think of punctuation as useful for the surface and for meta (e.g., "!" indicating &lit, "?" indicating offbeat/tricky semantic), but superfluous for the wordplay. So I didn't even notice the "missing" possessive of 2D!?

Thanks, Arty! Glad it flowed well for you!
