Cryptic Crossword #1 - 12x12 barred

◆◆ · By Cory Calhoun · Published 2024-11-29T06:33:17.072Z

Constructor's Note
This is the first cryptic crossword I've officially published! I've made a few that never saw the light of day, and I've written and posted several clues without a grid. Also, this is the first barred grid I've ever worked with... a very interesting experience indeed.

27D is an indirect anagram — "five Nikes" would be fairer than "five athletic shoes".

I had considered doing "five Nikes," for sure. Sometimes I'll have the direct anagram fodder appearing, and once in a while I'll put an indirect reference. I also figured Nikes were arguably the most popular brand of athletic shoe in the world, and went with that. Appreciate the feedback, and thanks for solving! :)
