Goeth

· By Wayne Mesard · Published 2023-06-16T03:19:31.687Z

I spent a ton of time trying to build a grid with a marquee entry of [Pride goeth BEFORE A FALL, because once I saw it was 11 letters, I couldn't unsee it. But I just couldn't get it to work. I was about to admit defeat, and just skip this month's contest entirely, when I tried a version without that entry, and everything else went in very smoothly. Then the fill was done in less than 20 minutes. (Obviously, since half the clues contain parentheticals trying to make the case that they aren't, in fact, crap fill.) And here we are.
Hope you like it.

Nice work! Glad that you were able to somewhat incorporate your marquee entry into the title. Don't think I dislike 14A as much as you do, though😂

Really liked it! +1 for 30A! Good friction, with a nice "aha" when I got it!

The clue in 30A refers to a thing, suggesting that the answer would be the thing - some noun, but, rather, the answer is part of an adjective phrase. What the clue points to and what the answer is should agree in part of speech.

Fun! I misread "Blow" as "Blown", and gave up on the NE section :/ As others have pointed out, 30A is so sneaky!
