Cryptic: A Strange Case

◆◆ · By wisprabbit · Published 2022-01-26T12:55:45.012Z

Constructor's Note
A themeless cryptic crossword.
First full cryptic! I'm hoping to do one of these a month.
I didn't use a reference dictionary (I'll change that in the future) but I've checked some of the nastier clues against Chambers' online tools (dictionary, thesaurus and biographical dictionary) and they seem to be fine: https://chambers.co.uk/search/
Merriam-Webster should also work, as well as regular Google searches for some of the pop-culture-y clues.
I post crosswords and logic puzzles on my Twitter: https://twitter.com/wisprabbit

Nice! Looking forward to solving these (and hopefully getting better at them 😂)

I don't quite get the clue for AESOP?

This is meant to be just a cryptic / punny definition, where there's wordplay in the definition but it doesn't quite split into wordplay + definition. "Fabulous" refers to Aesop's Fables. Not sure this kind of clue is my strong point tbh, so if it doesn't quite work for you or others that's something I can keep in mind for the next cryptic I set.

Took me a few extra minutes to get 9D and 12A, but otherwise a smooth solve
