    Fun solve! I found the four players and some clues referencing their sports, but couldn't quite figure out how to put them together.

      Very new to metas, hard to find the line between gettable and abstruse! Each of the players has had their jersey number retired by their team or, in one instance, the entire league. Those four numbered squares in the grid spell out the solution.
