Meta Prompt
The answer to this meta is how to apply the Swifties
Nudges provided by Tom Swift
“Pay attention to what I say,” said Tom absently.
“I could use some company,” said Tom firmly.
“It’s like where I work,” said Tom effortlessly.
“Give me less,” said Tom tersely.
“Haven’t I seen something similar around here?” said Tom blindly.

Incidentally - the prompt scared me that I'd have to use my Phone-a-friend lifeline to get my daughter to help me with Taylor Swift lyrics... phew!

Ha - I would need to phone a friend to include anything Taylor Swift related in a puzzle!

Ahh... went a couple directions before finally landing the answer. Cool concept! To clarify, tho, I had either LITTLE or LENTIL (morsel) to go with "Bit". Which did you intend? I similarly bounced between AAA (i.e., battery) and ADAYAGO for "Current", but the latter seemed a better fit. Assume that was correct... Really enjoyed the challenge, Mark!
                • Mwoychick constructor · 2022-12-14T19:47:48.136Z
I intended LITTLE, and my mistake for also including LENTIL - sorry for the ambiguity. I was intending AIRFLOW for current. Thanks for solving!

I had the same question about BIT, but I figured LENTIL. As for CURRENT, I'm pretty sure it's AIRFLOW.

Yes, that's right - current is airflow - thanks for solving

Probably would have gotten there forward solving, but I was sure what it had to be so I only looked at words starting with the appropriate letters :-) Nice puzzle, thanks!

This week I'm 3 for 3 on guessing with only getting the mechanism partly. I kind of get that Bit could be TWOS and Current can be AIRFLOW, fresh is sorta kind youthful and oat can be PORRIDGE and Zen could be AT EASE or TRANQUIL and "aptly" was the first thing I thought of when I saw the title but not sure how to put them together. Does every one have three answers or something?
Fun puzzle though even if I don't entirely get it.
                      • Mwoychick constructor · 2022-12-15T01:49:51.462Z
You got it, Woozy - thanks for solving - you take the company name in each of the Tom Swift clues, drop the LY and find the similar entry in the grid. So Currently-current-airflow gives you A, Oatley-oat-porridge-P, zenly-zen-tranquil-T, Bitly-bit-little-L, and freshly-fresh-youthful-Y. I am realizing from these comments that I left too many similar items in the puzzle, like LENTIL, AT EASE, TWOS, so apologies for the ambiguity.

Yes, like beer goggles for constructors - I only see the answers and path to it, but I miss the things that will throw off solvers. A lesson - now can I make it a lesson learned? We'll see!

Another fun puzzle by Mark. I love that all his puzzle can be solved by intuition, i.e. all the things he mentions are apps, the title is Appropriately Appropriate, which certainly hints towards that, and the convention for "Swiftisms" (quite popular in my memory) is to add "ly", so APTLY jumps to mind. BUT there is also always a rock solid, use standard Meta tools and you get the answer A irflow, P orridge, T ranquil, L ittle, Y outhful. NOt unlike Mr. Gaffney's NAPA from last week! Great work.

Congrats and thanks for solving - some of the ambiguities (i.e., constructor error) uncovered by other solvers made this more of a challenge than I intended. Glad you got it!

Well I finally found a mechanism and grid words to justify what I was sure was going to be the answer, and it turned out well, Tom said rightly (and before I saw you had posted nudges). It's been a while since I've enjoyed a Swifties-Fest, so thanks.
