So tbh I got the meta just by guessing and I have no idea how you're supposed to arrive at this answer. I noticed something similar about the three long across answers that looks like it's on the right track but not sure where to go from there, could some explain? thanks!

Multiple steps. To begin, notice the word “or” which appears twice in the themers.
Beauty! Pressed a bit for time, I requested a nudge from Will, and it confirmed I was on the right track. Given that nudge, Will, please do NOT make me eligible for any prize you may award. Thanks!

Went down a deep rabbit hole before being pulled out and put on the correct path.

Needed a bit of a nudge, but finally got it. As others have said, extremely clever puzzle.

Very tight puzzle, and very gettable. Good aha moment once you figure out what's going on.
One thing that was really helpful for me was Will saying "no Googling necessary". That saved from potentially numerous rabbit holes, I probably would've Googled all the movies that featured horses in them.
Well that was (A) clever (B) brutal. I was getting frustrated because half the time I didn't know whether to fish OR cut bait, We may have to take that computer programming away from you, it's dangerous!!!! Tough slog but fun AHA.

Great puzzle! Like others it took me forever to see the ORs but came together nicely after that
The answer matches my exclamation of disbelief at your feat of construction when I figured out the last layer here, Will!

Would someone please just post the mechanism for solving this? I love this site, but it's a crazy omission that answers are rarely accompanied by much-needed explanations.
