Constructor's Note
A cryptic with a few themed entries. I think this is an approachable cryptic.

this was great!! one of the main problems with newspaper cryptics is the reference points are like 70 years out of date, so this was a fun solve. DOS38DWindows ancestor: doors, oddly (3)[---], KNOT6DSinger Tunstall has no tie (4)[----], and NOR37DHard-boiled fiction? Not I, and not the other one either (3)[---] all really good clues. love the theme too, kept us guessing. we got stumped by ELO25DLynne's colleagues' chess rating (3)[---] though I'm afraid

thank you for the kind words! I agree about the newspaper reference points - since I started learning cryptics, I've learned more about cricket than I ever cared to know
