Had me scampering for a while...IRISH PLAY ABOUT WITCHES; WHISKY, SCOTCH, EAU...and then I looked at the ends. Loved the ABIDE clue and learned what ATAVISM was (I of course used a book to look it up). Interestingly another path I followed was GOLDEN ROD, GOLDEN FLEECE, GOLD RUSH, GOLD ORE, GOLDEN ERA, GOLDEN DAWN...I got to REOSAD and figured I missed something, but now I am thinking they were GOLDEN (Easter) EGGS!
