The code was first used in Gradius (1986) and was popularized among North American players in the NES version of Contra (1987). The title of the puzzle is an easter egg text that appears in the Japanese version of the game in a hidden credits scene which alludes to its sequel.

          Thank you for sharing the rebus instructions!! I’m fairly new here and spent many a puzzle… well, puzzled how to fill them in lol. Also kudos for the Contra reference!!!

            no worries - thanks for solving my puzzle! :) i usually try to hide the fact that a puzzle contains rebuses because that would take away from the joy of discovering that there's a rebus in the first place - i added the instructions after one of my friends said "i can't finish your puzzle i know what the answer is but i can't enter it! i want my happy music"
