My Musketeer Meta

· Di Bird Lives · Pubblicato 2024-09-30T10:16:29.083Z

Meta Prompt
The answer is a six-letter word.
Nudge 1 The puzzle originally had a different title: “Musketeer Motto Meta.” If you don’t know that motto, Google awaits.
Nudge 2 Each of the two crucial words in that motto appears three times in the grid (once for each Musketeer).
Nudge 3 In those six entries you can swap [insert motto here] to get six new entries.
Nudge 4 Each of those new entries could be clued by one of the other clues in the puzzle. Find those alternate entries and circle their first letter,
Nudge 5 Those letters, in order top to bottom, spell the answer, which desribes the state of the merged Musketeers.

It went from being what I thought would be simple enough to being tricky and very clever! (...once I reread the prompt 😄) Thanks, Jay!

Really fun puzzle that I tried so hard to complicate. I of course saw the ONEs and even managed to try to force another 32A "Words when it's all over" = ANDDONE, which gave me four ONEs...well of course that must be it, but then Jay made an error in his prompt, it is a six WORD answer (ALL FOR ONE, ONE FOR ALL). Hmmm, but if he did that he would have corrected it already, maybe it is the first letter of the ONEs...nope. Finally I got the Fast Eddie one right, saw that it was CALLS and said "It IS all for one and one for all, literally" and then I was ROFL (again literally).
The one answer was personally poignant because for MANY years I would not eat fish secondary to an incident on a family trip to Canada when I was about 6 - fishbone stuck in throat, went to hospital. When I finally tried fish again it was never a healthy meal because after every bite (which I chewed into a slurry) I would down a big piece of bread to make sure no bones were stuck. I also so much wanted to answer GOODALL to 1A and marvelled at your chicanery to throw people off the track with the commonalities of Mrs. Tarzan and Ms. Goodall.
This was no Musketeer to Snicker at!
                  Thanks y'all

Oh, that's funny. Since it was 1A and the grid was empty, I skipped ahead because I didn't know whether it was going to be JANE (Goodall) or DIAN (Fossey). Tarzan's Jane never crossed my mind until I read your comment here.

DrTom got it. Mrs. Tarzan was what I intended for that clue, but I couldn't figure out a way to make her unmistakeable.

You were so close to receiving a snarky note pointing out that Keats and Yeats DON'T rhyme . . . when I realized that they actually do. Fantastic clue!

It's a variant on my favorite 9-year olds' joke, which I'll try to remember to tell in the Tuesday Zoom.

Very very clever… took me a while to see step 2. I was thinking fours and ones might be the key, then finally thought of the sense of “for” meaning stand in for. Touché!

I saw the one for all and all for one idea right away and then it took a while to realize what it meant.

Just got to this today (stupid work). Well, filled out the grid a day or two ago but didn't instantly see anything. I think I was too focused on the alliteration in the title and not enough on the key word. Since I'm already days behind I looked at nudge 1, and then quickly got it. Well, by quickly I mean quickly got the idea. I did AFTER ALL / TAKE ONE / STALL / CONES. And then, for some reason, GOOD BALL and FISH ONE. Not sure why I transferred the B, but it made me think oh, maybe that wasn't the path after all. So then I looked at nudge 3, which was basically like 'no dummy, that was the right path.' 😂😂 Even then I had a slight hiccup because in fact I did some of the same thing with the STALL/CONES one. Somehow the S got misplaced, so I had STALLS/CONE and then maybe thought CONE fit something that would be seen in geometry class. 😂 Finally, once I like, properly executed things, it was easy. :) Fun one, thanks. :)
