Not an answer I was expecting! Thanks so much for this summer of solves, Mikey. I always enjoy your puzzles.

That was my first thought, but somehow I miscounted and thought there it had like 17 letters so I went looking for something else.

Yeah, didn't really want the qualifier, but you could probably shoehorn in something else without it - and I can make a Level 1 now and again, honest!!

This was fun. I don't think I've ever seen any episodes of this show, not even online. But it's impossible not to know the names. Thanks Mikey!

I expected to see Lumpy somewhere. Great puzzle, though.

I remember this from after school reruns. And I'm a teacher now, so I'm acutely aware of the kids that are "Eddies."

Brief rabbit hole -- Theodore (Geisel) -- Ted and Ed, (in bed with Fred and Red), Nonstop = Hop on Pop. But not Happy Fathers Day? OK, well then, The Places You'll Go, often given at Graduations -- But there's no good 15 letter combo anywhere there. Finally, with the various male names, I knew it had to be something associated with the trope of all-wise TV dads. Aha! But just one it turns out! (And you just knew that dam beaver would have something to do with it!) Thank you, Mikey -- Great work and definitely amusing!

Whew. Most of what I know about the show is probably from trying to put WandaVision episode 1 into historical context. But this had just enough generous, quirky nudges in it to get even someone who doesn't recognize the kids' names there, eventually.
Eventually. See, [conspiratorial whisper] the dragon's owner should be PETE, not PETES. But there's a reason for that -- if you imagine a [middle column] HIDDEN "SELLER" into PETES in the right place you get an actor famous for playing multiple CHARACTERs, including superintendent [HIDDEN in clue for 17a] QUILT in The Case of the Mukkinese Battle-Horn. [wanders off into the distance, ranting faster and quieter]
                          Thanks!

Yikes! Tough one if you never saw the show, but that’s on me. Very fair, and clever, Mikey! Glad I got it before nudge day 😬

I never saw the show. But the title was "character study" so I figured I had to look at names that could be characters. I don't know if Dan, Abe, Ted should be considered unnescessary distractions though. Last clue was about beavers.
                            • woozy 🤓9:10 · 2023-06-03T23:10:24.580Z
Oh... is the first clue a clue? I was wondering why the answer wasn't "leaf". Was that something said on this show I've never seen an episode of?

Probably not on the show, but the first across dodges around "Leave," somewhat humorously, and the last across references beavers!

Very fun. Theodore and then Fast Eddie took me to the answer. With Ward and Wally to confirm my suspicions.

Got hung up yesterday on using the character's full name (which of course adds to <15 letters...). Happy to have solved this after missing last week's (and forgetting to check for nudges in time..) Thanks Mikey!
                                          • DrTom 3s · 2023-06-04T19:02:36.059Z
Well I don't know if there was an "explicit" mechanism, however I got it from fastEDDIE, WARDrobe, WALLYlamb, THEODORE (and June of course) along with SHOO (LEAVE) and (BEAVER (DAMS) but gosh no LUMPYgravy? - this may be a generational and US thing because I am not sure our foreign Muggles will have been fans of the Beave (I ran into the same things with my last MEOW). I must say it brought back fond memories and reminded me how simple things were then (imagine that show today!). But your talk of artists strangely made me both sad and hungry, I'm going to make some Rubens so I don't end up a Blueboy and live in Gainsboro; no wait, sorry, Gainesville😊

That's the mechanism, haha. A Level 1 meta can be a very simple exercise in herding the cats, so to speak!
                                            • DIS 🤓7:44 · 2023-06-05T19:09:41.951Z
I got hung up on third of three, with WARDROBE and THEODORE symmetrically placed -- The Lion, The Witch... / Alvin, Simon.. Not that it Mathers.
                                              • Schmeel 🤓17:53 · 2023-06-06T12:27:04.761Z
As @DrTom wrote, not being in the US made this easy one pretty difficult for me. I couldn't even figure out what I needed to google! So many red herrings. Names, words within words. And funny what jumps out at you when nothing else does. Do you know how many 'shoo bee doo wop' songs there are? So thanks @boharr for the ever so slight nudge. And thanks @Mikey G for the puzzles - I've been enjoying them a lot!

Well, as soon as I followed your "nudge" to "benchen71" and googled the two across names and June, the answer popped right up. I wouldn't have thought of this show otherwise - it's been decades since I saw any episodes. Liked your cluing.
