The asnwer to this meta is what you might say when you finally figure out what this puzzle is
This should be a mechanism that has never been done before. It's three puzzles in one!
I apologize for the immense size of the grid but I had my reasons. I tried to compensate by making the clues fairly easy to fill in.
There's two ways to solve it. The easy way which may be hard. And the hard way which may actually be easier. Good luck and I apologize in advance to those who always hated these puzzles.

Then I just did the magic eye trick on the solved grid and the cat and the message popped right out! Was that the easy way that's hard, or the hard way that's easier?
- woozy constructor · 2025-01-10T22:07:51.469ZThat was the intended way. But different people have different levels of ease with magic eye pictures. For me when I looked at the cat and got it nice and solid I'd see some letters look sharper than others. Then you had to look at the letters and then it's difficult to look at the letters with you eyes still focused in the distance without inadvertantly focusing on the individual letters at screen length ruining the effect. But if you can do it, and if you can concentrate it is clear some letters are sharper than others. I made highlights to make it clearer but they also muddied some things. The other way (tedious) would be to look for letters that occur regularly exactly 8 apart and not bother with the eye strain. But I love the look of the letters popping out! I just found my ability to read the letters kept popping out of focus :(. Also if you screen is slightly tilted either the OH or the CAT might have a bit of double vision.

If you focus beyond your screen so the black squares in pattern align you get a very solid image of a bit pixel sketch of a cat. If the grid is filled the lettered cells superimposed but with different letters will be faded and unsteady. Except for cases where the two superimposed cells are the same letter. These cells will stand out is sharp focus. And you see they spellOH MY GOSH! ITS A CAT.Which is the meta answer.
- HeadinHome 4s · 2025-01-11T15:48:02.329ZLooked like a dog to me (that kind of went in and out of view) so I first said “dog gone!” Then I saw the letters waving, and read OH MY ITS a CAT. (Didn’t see GOSH or A) - but that was enough to get to this elite group of solvers. I have always found Magic Eye pretty easy to see, but the one on the header I still don’t see… are we looking for an image other than wavy white lines in that one?

- woozy constructor · 2025-01-11T20:27:10.043ZI have to admit it's a pleasant change to go from Me: Oh, I think this meta I created should be straightforward and if difficult, easy to see once figured; Everyone else: Well, that was a clever idea but kind of confusing and kind of hard to see--- to Me: we it really hard to focus on this but worth it, I better put in more highlights to make it easier to see; Everyone else: Saw it right away-- it just popped out to me.
- whimsy 59:06 · 2025-01-12T04:16:44.381ZFinally able to get enough of a "pop" to get a "click"!I had varying levels of success with the slightly different mediums -- the crosshare banner message was easiest to see, followed by the forum banner. The grid was more difficult -- I only saw OH MY ITS A _____ but the graphic helped. Although I kept having trouble keeping the kitty from turning back into triplets!
