Type-O Personality

Meta Prompt
The answer is an invaluable writing aid
Type-O Personality Intro
We all know what a Type-A person is, but what is a Type-O? Good question and one that, until I made this meta, I knew nothing about. Apparently there is a new “science” coming out of Japan and called Ketsueki-gata. People who have gotten tired of using the non-scientific “what’s your sign” to get to know about possible dates or mates now turn to the equally non-scientific “what’s your type”. Each “type” (A, B, AB, O) has distinctive traits. Interestingly Type-A in both are similar, but the laidback and desirable Type-B in the A, B, C, D does NOT translate to the Type –B in the other.
OK, so what about the meta? This is yet another inspired by, but an easier variant of, a long past Matt Gaffney or Wall Street (can’t remember which) and something I (and I guess others) struggle with constantly. I’d like to believe it is because of my Type-A (Type-O in the Ketsueki-gata he said being very generous with himself) personality but whatever the reason it gave me a meta.
Having me rating metas has proved to be a fool’s game, I almost never get it right, but it certainly won’t stop me. I am saying Calico at most because I feel frequent solvers will spot the “trick” VERY quickly. I’d like to, as always, thank my testers, Super Secret Tester (you know who you are) and edestlin who kept me honest.

Saturday (unless necessity dictates) will be nudge day, now go and Ketsueki-gata Type-O or old Type-A this puzzle.
NUDGES:
Nudge 1] The "un-named" tester was Wendy Walker
Nudge 2] The Title serves double duty as a reference to the mechanism and the answer
Nudge 3] I know I often have errors in my clues, but so many, and with Wendy testing?
Nudge 4] Is PAIRS really a compitition and IS Rap a Granmy category?

𝙏𝙃𝙀 𝙍𝙀𝙑𝙀𝘼𝙇
Hopefully this one was rather straightforward.
Eleven clues have an obvious typo in them
1A. Skating Compitition
11A. Granmy category
20A.Palce a demand
22A. Passin mention?
27A. Quacks' in a way
40A Lift ups
50A. Output of a modern writers
57A Like fine chese or wine
60A Fail's to pursue
70A Twistie turn
72A Fix ahem again
The first letters of the answers to those clues spell out PROOFREADER, a Typo Personality if ever there was one.

    Wel don, DrTom! :P

Thank goodness for symmetry - a few of those were easy to miss!

Ar first I thought that maybe I should have been a tester. And then I realized what was going on. 😅 Nice one, Dr Tom!

It is why the other tester is anonymous, it is Wendy Walker and NOBODY would believe she tested that puzzle and let those slide.
Thanks for being willing to rescue me though! You are also a valued tester, but copy editing is Wendy's profession (and she is VERY good at it). Glad you were able to work through the urge to say "what?" and solve. I figured the Type-O personality would come to mind with the first Typo.

Haha, this was fun! You really had me for a second — "Tom, you need a new proofreader!", I thought — until I saw the light. I think one must've still slipped through: I was pretty sure 27A should be PAIR-O-DUCKS, but it doesn't seem to fit? 😂

Fun one! Knew something had to be up right from the jump... I actually didn't notice competition at first, but Granmy was impossible to miss!

                        Oh, that was cute.
Some made me think "Geez, he's really losing it" but more were very subtle.
But I'm not sure I get the title.

I also didn't understand the significance of the title until now. Had two vaccines yesterday; maybe I'm the one I should be concerned about.

Right off the bat I was wondering who this super secret tester is because of a few TYPE-Os in the clues so glaring that even I noticed LOL. When they started to pile up, I knew what was going on. Well done!! And Ketsueki-gata is a new to me. About as reliable as astrology but fun to read about. Thanks for a great puzzle!
                            • ajk 🤓11:42 · 2024-09-11T16:52:00.760Z
Straightforward indeed. Spotted palce/passin/ahem during the solve, and figured that's what was up. Missed chese and Twistie the first time through (the latter because I think my brain just assumed that was some brand which I didn't know), but got the rest. Resisted the urge to focus only on the ones I knew I needed in a second look, and those two jumped out the second time around. Fun stuff, thanks. If I did this I'd be nervous that I'd introduce an extra one by accident. 😂😂😂 Although if WW is your second test solver that would solve the problem (and perhaps explain why she was incognito). :)

Wendy was indeed the tester and had to point out several others that were NOT intentional and even fix the ones that were. But it was the reason for the secrecy.

So much fun, thought there were some sloppy clues until I realized they were the complete opposite of sloppy. Once you find the symmetry, the grid becomes chaotically beautiful! And Type-O Personality is such a good title, it's a little bit of a red herring while still being a nice clue.

The Type-O personality was a last minute inspiration and I hit upon it for the very reason you describe, it does point to typos, "a typo personality" (which I can see making its way into a future meta as a clue for EDITOR or PROOFREADER) and also says "hey over here - sorry, JK!"
                                    • MatthewL 🤓9:18 · 2024-09-11T19:55:10.625Z

Well that's OK, a little hesitation is often the clue for ER making it PROOFREADER, though I suppose it could just as easily be PROOFREADUM?

At 1A I started making notes as though I were test-solviing/proofreading. After a couple more, I got the idea.
I have a dim, dim memory of a Gaffney puzzle with a similar idea.

Matt did one with punctuation marks and such I believe. I remember it because it was difficult and I actually solved it. It was the basis for this puzzle in a way.

(“WHO did he get to test run this? Why didn’t they catch these??”). Came to me while making supper: those were TYPE-Os. Duh.
