This doesn't really affect the puzzle, but just FYI: in golf lingo, under par is good. Albatrosses (the biggest birds) are 3 under par, eagles (big birds) are two under, birdies (normal birds) are one under, bogeys one over, then it just goes double bogey, triple bogey, quad bogey, etc.
You start at the T("tee") in the upper right hand corner.
If you go directly to the hole by going south-east over the letter ERN, you have gone two under par and made an EAGLE (a white tailed sea eagle, to be exact)
If you make it in two shots by going right over SMEW (the European water bird) and down over WREN, you have gone one under par and made a BIRDY.
You can make a BOGEY by going one over par in four shots by going down over GOTHIC, right over CHIMERA, then up over ALIEN, and then down and to the left over NO.
oh i see, i thought that clue was indicating that the clued words could stop before they hit a bar or the hole (so NO could be spelled going west from ALIEN instead of going southwest)

I didn't catch NO because I was looking for another T to answer the true/false question. D'oh!
