Bill Collector

Meta Prompt
The answer is a treat for bill collectors
Well hopefully forewarned is forearmed. As promised here is this week's puzzle. It is not as polished as Play Dough, but I doubt it is any more difficult. You ought to be able to recognize the themers right away (though I will tell you they are not symmetric), and if not there is always Friday nudge day. I am guessing this will play about a level 1 or no more than a 2!
NUDGE FRIDAY!!!
Nudge 1 Did you notice several names of important sounding people in the grid?
Nudge 2 So you know where to find their names, where would you find their faces?
Nudge 3 Do those names have a number associated with them?
Nudge 4 If a constructor gives you numbers, what do you do?
The mechanism revealed: Five presidents in the GRID, each of whom graced a paper bill. The denomination of the bill led you to a GRID square number and its letter, and those letters, in the order the President had appeared in the GRID, spelled the Meta answer – MINTS

LOL initially missed GRANT and misread box 2 as the adjacent T instead of the S, leading to confusion when MINT was not correct

I discounted the advice from the Marvelettes. I messed with bills and got the meta.

                    This is embarrassing (and weird). I spent 20 minutes saying JACKSON = 20 = M and LINCOLN = 5 = A and HAMILTON = 10 = N and GRANT = 50 = T and JEFFERSON = 2 = S and that spells "MANTS"????
I double checked at least 7 times and I couldn't believe my elegant metanism wouldn't be correct. But sure as day... THOSE were the denominations of the bills there were no other denominations other than one (and Washington was absent) that are in the range of the puzzles. And CROSSHARE says my grid is final so I can't have any of the grid letters wrong.
After twenty minutes I finally realized that that numeral with a curve and a loop in it... That isn't actually a FIVE. That numeral is actually a SIX. A five is the numeral that has a flat table top and goes down and makes an unclosed hook shape. That's right next door and it is an "I".
                    Sheesh!

Although I am always happy when a good mechanism works out and I can fill a grid without constantly referring to 18th century poets or physics terms, the cluing is the most fun I have. I love words and if I can make them ahve double meaning (and ESPECIALLY if there is a pun involved) I am in cruciverbal heaven!

As mentioned above, cluing is the most fun and creative part of most of these. Although MikeyG can run rings around me with puns, I'd like to think I am a close second.
