Meta Prompt
The answer is an apt description for a day of the week
If you are having a difficult time, perhaps some hints may help. Here are some "nudges" to help you solve; I have them in order of what I think is the level of strength of the hint which get more blatant as you go down:
Did you notice that there seemed to be a lot of clues with a military theme?
Constructors rarely use "positional" words in a title capriciously!
What date was this puzzle published. and why is that important?

Given that this Pearl Harbor Day I thought I'd take advantage of it's ominous label by placing words associated with the event that have a last letter which, when taken in grid order, spell out INFAMOUS. "...December 7th..., a date which will live in infamy" FDR

I saw the links to Japan right away and then backed into the entire word.

        Thanks, DrTom. Great fun.

The Pearl Harbor theme was definitely there. Nice idea for a meta and timely! Thanks DrTom!

            Thanks doc!

It’s amazing how one part of my brain registered the theme, but did not communicate with the rest of my brain. Little idea bubbles that couldn’t make it to the surface. Got a nudge. Nice puzzle, Dr. Tom!

Good one, Dr. T. Lest we forget.

As much fun this time as when I test solved. Perfect puzzle for today!

Okay... now to figure out what the heck the meta could possibly be.
                    • woozy 🤓12:41 · 2022-12-09T03:49:40.414Z
Oh... take the letters that are there! Don't add or change anything.... thanks to a check to the to the head from rjy.

Got it with the first nudge, it's amazing how oblivious I can be sometimes. I skated right past all of the pointed theme clues to focus on all the ones with two-word blanks, since it seemed like there were an unusual number of those. Nice puzzle and commemoration!

Loved the clue at 3D (Words that start a lifetime sentence). Well done, Dr. Tom

Well done. I needed the "gentle shove".

The gentle (first) nudge quickly set me on the right path to find the theme words that had relevant endings. Nice way to memorialize that infamous attack on our Pacific Fleet,

That date is the anniversary of my husband's parents so that characterization of the date has been repeated many times. Thanks for reminding me of their anniversary! I think my Father-in-law would have loved metas and this one in particular.

Well glad you got to it! It probably was a bit more difficult when it was NOT solved on December 7th.
