In our house, every Saturday is laundry day. Actually, we do loads of washing mid-week, too. But Saturday is the day for specific items that need washing on a regular basis. Some of these just might be hidden in this puzzle. The answer to the meta is a 4-letter word. Answer & explanation: https://xword-muggles.com/viewtopic.php?p=158958#p158958
Check out "The MOAT Mini Pack of Marching Bands" here: https://www.ephesusscroll.com/about/interest4.html. US$5 gets you 7 Marching Bands which, hard enough on their own, now contain metas too. And once again there's a mega-meta!

Starting with 17A go clockwise around the long answers like you are watching through the viewing window of a wall-mounted washer! :D

Nice one. Found sheets and the bed linen clue, and then it was pretty much off to the races. Thanks for the puzzle, Ben!

How many others did what I did? I was so excited when I found you could spell DIRT (in order) in all of them, I quickly submitted that 4-letter word. Good ole crosshare… it just says “keep trying, you silly.” The next step was even more fun (the spin cycle). Actually, when I thought the answer might be DIRT I was disappointed, because I had found so many other fun things… such as the fact that “bed linen” (sheet) could be found (in order!) in DISHSTREET if you removed DISTR (I had not yet seen DIRT in all the themers, so I thought maybe the leftover letters would lead to something.. maybe DISTR was short for distribute? district?) Oddly, I had also noticed that “something that will absorb water” (sponge) was in DESIGNPORT, but didn’t follow through with the leftovers enough to notice that one would have left DIRT, in that order. Spotting the D-I-R-T was just a stumble-upon a few minutes after all that work. This puzzle has several points of entry; it’s fun to see them all come together!
I missed finding one (17A doesn't seem to fit, so I must have spun it wrong) but 3 out of 4 gave me enough of what I knew had to be the answer. I'll take a closer look later. Thanks, Ben.

Very nice construction!

Third time's the charm! My first attempt was TIDE, because I noticed that all four themers contained these letters, and the remaining letters made nice words that needed washing. Then I tried again and noticed that I could wash the DIRT out of all four themers. Finally I thought to do something with the leftover words. First I tried to find clues that would fit them, but I could only find two that kinda-sorta fit. Then I looked at the clues again and saw that some of them were really long with extraneous bits...

Wow. Great idea and execution! I’m guessing the SPIN is a cryptic anagramming clue?
Oh, you're a dirty boy Ben!!! I got this backwards. The clues for the "clothing" were so bizarre that I used them to tease out the item + DIRT (ex SPONGE + DIRT) in each of the long clues, then, since I had to "spin" the DIRT letters in most cases I went for DIRT. Only when Crosshare told me it was wrong did I go back and look at the letters of the "laundry item" clues. As soon as I had S and P I knew what I needed. I have to say, your ID tag clue was so oddly worded thatit nearly led me astray. Fun puzzle, thanks Ben.
That was a workout, but I made it! (I did look at the nudges, but they all said things I had either already done or knew I had to do, so I am going to count this as an "unaided" solve.) I sussed out the directions in 1A and 69A and (eventually) got the anagrams, and then figured I had to go to the clues, but that was the step that took me a while. Thanks for the challenge!
Very nice. Needed the second nudge for some reason, even though I was trying yesterday to wash and then anagram. But I guess my subconscious needed to be told that they all needed to be washed in the same way before it could see the DIRT. Wasn't immediately certain that I was supposed to link the ANYA clue to BLOUSE, but once I reread the OCTOMOM clue I was pretty confident that was the path. Seems like the SOS and PRIM clues should have jumped out more initially, but I guess sometimes it just comes across as trying to come up with a new clue for something like SOS. :)
A lot of fun! I wonder if I could have grokked it if I noticed the bonus clues along the way, but it wouldn't nearly have been as much fun! Really liked this one!!
