    Heads up: 3D's wordplay would be considered an indirect anagram (you clue NI HAO, which is then rearranged to contribute to the answer), which is (usually) considered a no-no. Just part of the weirdness that you learn as you head deeper into the world of cryptics!

      I wondered if it might have been HAN = Chinese (as in the dynasty but wasn't sure) + OI (greeting- again wasn't sure on that). You're parse is probably what was intended. In which case I agree indirect anagrams are generally frowned upon.

      Agree with others on the indirect anagram, but it just be said they do turn up in some UK cryptics. Not a bad quick solve, though!
