As seen last week, BOOKS = OT or NT and BOOK = B. NOVEL, however, can clue EITHER (a) an ANAGRAM e.g. "Consumed novel tea (3)" would be ATE (b) a reference to a famous work of literature. e.g. "Hardy novel girl (4)" would be TESS. Thank you - I imagine 1D was probably new to everyone who's not a poet (and possibly even to some poets). I was desperately casting around for anything that fitted, but I kind of assumed people would get it from the across clues. Apologies for slightly unfair cluing there.
