I was fairly convinced that this theme had been done in the NYT at some point. Turns out that all clue suggestions for DROPTHEACT in the Crosshare database are revealer-type clues, but it has never appeared in the NYT as an answer, not even in a themeless.

Me, working clockwise from the NE: CONTALENS? Huh? Must be a brand or something...

I’m confused, perhaps as usual. You’re only dropping the CT, not the ACT? Am I missing something?
        • SporcleMirror constructor · 2023-03-06T04:33:06.170Z
“ACT” isn’t removed, just dropped in the Downs (XF[ACT]OR, EX[ACT]ED, T[ACT]ICS).

I don’t think "duh" properly expresses my idiocy here. Thanks!

I was wondering why just CT was removed from the themers. The answer TACTICS should have tipped me off before I got to the revealer. Nice work!
