      (There's also at least one typo in my comments about your typos. I meant 34 Across, not 32 Across which doesn't exist.)

        I can't work out what the theme means either, apart from the middle section of each clue being the actual clue, in the format "[other stuff] to [actual clue] without [other stuff]?"
        Also, you've got a couple typos in the clues:
        • 32 Across has an extra "a".
        • The clue for 22 Down isn't parallel with the answer unless you add a preposition, like "show up at by schooner."
        Fun puzzle! I learned a new word in 16 Across.

          I figured out two of the themers: In 1A, "without Mme." means there's an FR (French class) missing in the middle, so REFRACT becomes REACT. The clue for AGE (without Prof.) means ENG is missing, in this case at the beginning, so ENGAGE becomes AGE. I can't figure out the "without Sra." clue - presumably SP or SPAN is missing from the answer, but I couldn't relate it to the answer. Perhaps after my coffee fully kicks in.

            Ha yes that's it, I've never worked with rebuses before so I just reclued the revealer to hopefully make it easier to understand - thank you for the help!
