Thank! Surfaces are great as ever, I especially like 2D and 6A is a fun take on one of the classic double defs. Apologies, since I’m surely missing something, but I can’t quite parse 1D: to me, it seems like “originally” is doing double duty, giving us the first letter of “sex” and also becoming NEE.
Also, being extremely nitpicky, from the definition of 5A I would expect a gerund or adverb answer, the tenses don’t line up and it doesn’t quite work for me. I’d probably choose “eat like a bird” or an equivalent. But again, probably just me!
      Thanks for the great puzzle!

With 1D, and this may be more of a US thing, but S is an abbreviation on its own for "sex," as in someone in a chat room asking for your A, S, and L (age, sex, location). I liked it for the surface enough to keep it, but I may tweak it a bit.
As for 5A, that doesn't seem nitpicky at all! I may edit that to match.

Ahhh, for 1D I did consider sex=S but couldn’t think of any examples — I think that’s fair in the context of A/S/L. Either way, was definitely a fun clue to solve even when I couldn’t parse it!
