Now that came out of left field... V smooth grid for that constraint. Thanks!

So many constraints and such smooth fill. Very nice.

"Huh, the top three acrosses begin with the same letters as the ones in the second last row. Oh, and the second row matches the last row, and...no way...WOW" Well described by the clue for 37A. :D Took me far too long given that I fit the answer.

Was trying to be too clever, needed a nudge to look at every starting letter, not my extracts. I'd thought that "starting rotation" was most likely referring to baseball (volleyball was plausible but much less likely). After the nudge confirmed the baseball connection, I didn't know if you wanted southpaw (which is what was spelled out) or pitcher. Obviously you wanted the first. Quite remarkable to do what you did.

I don't want to make a left-handed compliment here. This was one of those that might be difficult to see, but once you see it, it's so obvious. It took me a while to get to that point. Good thing the pitch clock wasn't on
                                                • Qmark 5s · 2023-04-16T11:43:09.196Z
Finally! Stared at the filled grid all week...and nothing. Then with the deadline approaching, boom there it is! As a "sinister" person myself, I'm glad I finally got the right answer.
