nice puzzle! not sure the clue for LIANE is accurate--wikipedia says it's LIANA. liked PERSNICKETY, and the inclusion of PARIS and FRANCE, although there were many names i didn't know, which made this harder.

Thanks, Heron, for taking the time to respond. Looks like "liane" is a less-used variant of "liana."
I had been looking forward to using "persnickety,' and the clue for "France."

I also grinned to note that you have been experimenting with the variety of grid sizes also, as I have.

yep--it's interesting what grid shapes are possible with each grid size :)

I agree with @heron on 13A, though it's been clued as such four times in the NYT (out of 15 appearances), per XWordInfo. My go-to association would be LIANE Hansen of NPR, and apparently there is an actor, an author, and "Eric Cartman's mom on 'South Park'".

I see your point. I avoided Liane Hansen as thinking that not enough people would connect that. But I guess that's just as true of "the vine."

PERSNICKETY was fun for sure; I also liked the clue for CLEVER. Nice pun from Mr. Fields!
