A rather jolly cryptic

◆◆ · By n0hk · Published 4 months ago

Watching a https://www.twitch.tv/butlerontheair crossword stream (check them out!), I had inspiration to write a grid with only one clue. Turns out that this is pretty difficult, and others have found a neat way to sidestep this and create so-called quote puzzles that are still entertaining and engaging. I'm more stubborn than I am good at writing crosswords; so I continued by finding the longest appropriate fill that I could, and writing a crossword around it.

Rules:

The central square is used as part of the aforementioned multi-entry clue, and is positionally denoted by a *.
All the other clues are normal, and hopefully enjoyable.
I'll be impressed at those who manage to WOF this entry from the enumeration alone, if you mange to do so then you deserve the head-start in solving the rest of the clues.
Thanks to Butler's stream for the inspiration for this grid, and teamcrazymatt https://crypticmatt.blogspot.com/ for the test solve!

Very fun! The 2-2-2 definitely helped figure out the big one haha

I'm glad you enjoyed it, thanks for the solve and comment <3! It's definitely friendly enumeration, but that makes up for some of the other parses :)

Wow would you look at this, n0hk made a cryptic and it has my name in it! Howdy do! Thanks much for the shoutout and for the puzz, Amrit says "sorry I wasn't here but i contributed" so that is cool. Amrit also said we should do the Spelling Bee now. But I will have enjoyed this puzzle more than the Spelling Bee because it had my name in it and was made by my good friend Brad. Til we speak again! - Me

Does being in the blurb count for being in the grid? Now I'm thinking I need to use Butler as fill in a grid sometime 🤔 And surely the spelling bee's had your name in it in the past :)
But look at Amrit being the only one sane enough to not participate
