    For 2D, big cat is PUMA around L for lake. This is followed by the last letter of each of the words “eating fine”—G and E. Viola, PLUMAGE!

    Glad you asked… I realized I’m fuzzy on this too! I think “African flowers” is NILES and that “garlands” the GG, but not sure how the “child’s horse” gives us that part.

      Children often call a horse a GEEGEE or GG - it's a common "joke" (such as it is) in a lot of British crosswords. But you're spot on with African flowers, Sendhil. And thank you, Guy x
