      Thanks! I didn't like 6A; is it actually a word without hyphenation? According to Miriam Webster the enumeration should be (1-2)

        Thanks, Oliver! My dictionaries show it to be a word without hyphenation. This may be a situation of American English versus the King’s English.

          Thank you for replying; the OED hyphenates it; Chambers does not but lists it as an abbreviation. From a personal viewpoint I dislike acronyms etc as solutions in cryptic crossword; I think this is the major failing of the Crosshare constructor.
