To C or Not to C

· By Emma Oxford · Published about 2 months ago

Constructor's Note: Did you know ANTARCTICA was originally pronounced with the first C silent? It's only recently the pronunciation has evolved to be more in line with the way the word is spelled, the aptly named "spelling pronunciation." Please enjoy this puzzle featuring several other English words that have undergone a similar linguistic evolution (plus some Antarctica-related clues).

I'm something like fifteen years out of practice on interpreting the IPA so this was a tricky one. Fun theme interpretation too.
