That was a great grid but the wordle is a bit puzzling. Is there a meta reason it must be OFFER instead of OTHER/OVERT/OTTER?

  No, it's just how Wordle itself works. You can be at your last guess and only have O**ER and not have played T, F or H. Only one of FF, TT or TH will be correct.s
