                                                Fun meta. I should have been able to get this had paid more attention to the literal clues whose most likely answers were not the grid entry but rather the grid answers to the "play on words" question clues.
                                                However, I'm not sure how we were supposed to generate the E in JEOPARDY, which is the eight letter, since there were only 7 questions. The E would have to come from 5D, 8D, or 13D.

                                                      Nice! Backsolved the meta- Jeopardy was the obvious answer right away. Noticed JUAREZ/EL PASO connection while solving the grid, so I knew it was a synonym meta- it was fun finding the other pairs!
